The new Sotra Bridge is coming

Status of the work on the Sotra Connection and the new Sotra Bridge – and what it means for Knarrevik.

The Arefjord tunnel

Sotra Link has achieved tunnel breakthrough, and they are now finishing the tunnels. Then extensive testing of the safety systems remains before they can be approved and opened for traffic. The tunnel opens for traffic together with the rest of the new highway.

Work in Knarrevik at the new Sotra Bridge

Sotra Link is carrying out blasting at the new Sotra Bridge. This work does not affect traffic, but a siren can be heard in the area before a blast goes off.

Other activities such as soil moves, relocation of soil masses and fill work continue in Knarrevik.

About the new Sotra Bridge

  • The bridge has a main span of 608 metres and a total length of 901 metres.
  • The bridge will be 29.5 metres wide with four traffic lanes and a cycle lane with a pavement.
  • The bridge towers will rise to 145 metres.
  • 28,000 cubic metres of concrete will go into building the bridge.
  • The bridge is designed and engineered by Norconsult for Sotra Link.

Today, the drive from Bergen passes through congested areas. The Sotra Connection's new 9.4 km four-lane road will remove bottlenecks and improve safety for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians in Øygarden and Bergen.
