From bottleneck to main artery
Today's Sotra Bridge is one of Norway's busiest two-lane bridges, and rush-hour congestion between Bergen and Sotra has long been a brake on both commuters and business. The Sotra Connection is building 9.4 km of four-lane road between Storavatnet in Bergen and Kolltveit on Sotra, and is relieving the existing bridge with a brand new four-lane suspension bridge.
The project is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2027. When it does, travel time between central Bergen and Knarrevik drops sharply, and predictability in commuting goes up just as much.
Why this is good news for office locations
- Access to talent. Businesses in Knarrevik gain access to the entire Bergen region's labour market without employees having to relocate.
- Lower setup cost. Office rents and commercial plots on Sotra are still well below central Bergen.
- Room to grow. Knarrevik offers larger, flexible buildings that are hard to find in central Bergen.
- Logistics advantage. Short distance to the E39 north/south and to sea transport via the ISPS-approved quay in Knarrevik.
- Cycle and pedestrian path. The Sotra Connection is building a continuous cycle and pedestrian path with a pavement along the entire route.
What we are already seeing
We are noticing growing interest from companies with premises in central Bergen who see Knarrevik as the next step – either as a head office or as a satellite office close to much of their staff.
Knarrevik Business Park has a broad mix of tenants including Norsk Gjenvinning, SICE, Sotra Link Construction, Franzefoss and Celsius Teknikk, and the office building is certified with energy rating A.
Considering Sotra as a business location? We would be happy to show you the premises.
